At Golspie Teddy Bear Club we had great fun making some keyring chains for Father’s Day with cornflour clay. This is really easy to make and dries out in about 24 hours depending on the size of your creation.
You need: 1 cup bicarbonate of soda, ½ cup of cornflour, ¾ cup of warm water.
Mix all the ingredients in a saucepan over a medium heat, stirring constantly until it resembles a soft dough. Remove from the heat and leave dough to cool. Turn out onto the counter and knead until dough is soft. Once cool, store in an air tight container until needed.
The toddlers used their dough to make fingerprint keyrings and some of the smallest hands managed to do whole hand prints.
The children then chose some beads to decorate their gifts.
You can use the dough to make bigger creations too. With the little dough left over my daughters made animal ornaments they painted once the clay had dried.
With thanks to the playworkers at Seaboard Playgroup for the idea.
